ABOUT US
The Iu-Mien Student Union of Berkeley (IMSU), formerly known as the Mien Student Union (MSU), is a student-initiated organization that seeks to provide a space and resources for Iu-Mien students at the University of California, Berkeley.
MISSION STATEMENT
As a union, we, as Mien students of the University of California, Berkeley, want to establish an organization that will (a) promote cultural awareness among Mien students and those interested in the Mien community (b) strengthen the relationship of Mien students on campus (c) foster higher education to Mien high school students through outreach and and mentorship (d) learn about current issues affecting the Mien community and discuss how we can better serve these issues (e) learn and explore Mien history and culture.
Lao Iu Mien Culture Association
(LIMCA)
LIMCA’s mission is to preserve the cultural heritage of the Iu Mien who came from the highland Lao tribal community, and to develop social and cultural programs to facilitate the Iu Mien integration into the economic and cultural life of the United States.
Iu Mien Scholarship Fund
(IMSF)
The Iu Mien Scholarship Fund (IMSF) was formed by the Lao Iu Mien Culture Association, Inc. (LIMCA) to promote higher education in the Iu Mien community.
Iu Mien Student Conference
The conference has a three-fold mission: to (1) empower youth to pursue higher education and/or explore career opportunities, (2) educate youth on the importance of preserving ethnic culture, and (3) inspire youth to become community leaders.
